January 11,2014

This is one of the last windmills of the original kind, not the new huge things that are downstate.  It needs to be put back together and put to good use.  It would be wonderful if we still used them for power and weren't so reliant on the grid.  I wonder what caused these to pretty much become obsolete.  This one looks like it has all the parts and could be put back together pretty easy.  this one needs a little repair and then it could be as good as new.  The dark dreary sky behind it is snow sky's.  I can't wait for the sun to come out and stay out and winter would just start to fade away for another year.  I thought I saw somewhere there was like 95 days til spring or something like that.  warm winds, sunny skies, and mushroom hunting I can't wait.

January 10, 2014

We had an ice storm last night freezing drizzle and this is how it stuck to the tree. It sticks up like a group of snow flakes landed on each other to stack up and create little mounds or was it rain that as it dried it froze.  I looks really cool by the human eye, not sure if it portrays itself in pictures well.  I imagine it as little snow drones and they are standing on each others shoulders making little pointed mounds.  In my imagination they are shaped like snow flakes and they have little helmets on and knee and elbow pads and they have white colored sun glasses on because they would get snow blindness just like us if it is too bright.

January 9, 2014

It was beautiful and sunny out today but the skies were clear and that is keeping us cold according to the next weather coming in we are supposed to get drizzles.  I didn't have a chance to get out while it was nice and sunny so I got this picture later in the day when the sun was on the otherside of the house.  It is just a 2 on my house but even 2's are photogenic.  They pose so nicely and look rather relaxed doing it.  I'm unable to tell if it is smiling though.

This is the roof at the feed in grain off of Mitchell st.  I have another picture of this in the summer time when there are seagulls flying around and landing on it.  It is actually very peaceful to sit on my porch and watch the birds land on the top.  I know it is a feed and grain so I sometimes wonder if there are seeds open somewhere that the birds can get to and if there is then they probably have mice and that would be a great food source for the stray cats that live around town. Maybe they should put more grain out to attract more mice so the cats will stay out of my garbage.

It is so cold outside -18 with windchill that he put his snowmobile helmet on, so his face wouldn't get cold.  Now that's dedicated.  I love that man.  working on snowblowing because our washer is fixed and we are having it brought back today and we are getting a new bed delivered.  I absolutely cannot sleep on the old one anymore.  We are getting a memory foam mattress hopefully it is comfortable.  Don't go out in this crap unless you absolutely have to.  We are probably breaking records somewhere.

This clock with all the crosses on it is in the old church and everytime I go by this building I really want to go in and take pictures.  I am going to find the people that own it someday and go wild with the photos and then I am going to find something amazing in that building that I can paint.  I can just imagine some of the old art work that is probably gracing the walls or maybe there are statues of saints or the Virgin Mary or maybe a really amazing crucifix.  I have taken all kinds of pictures on the outside.  I have tried to get good close up pictures of the stain glass.  The building is just structurally beautiful.  I have seen a picture of the clock close up but I can never take a picture of that clock without including the crosses.

Pine cones all closed up, in the spring these should open and drop their little seeds to make new tree's.  They look interesting in the wintertime.  The pine tree is all green and there is just little dots of brown from a distance, I love the look of different things close up.  Taking this picture today was a very cold trip even though it wasn't far from my house.  We are supposed to get very cold weather today through wednesday.  With windchill we are suppose to have -45 to -60 degree weather for the next 3 days.  My husband has to work in this so I hope they stay very warm frostbite and hypothermia occurs within 20 minutes in weather like this.  On the hopeful side cold weather like this should kill the Emerald Ash borer larvae.  The earth does things to take care of herself.

Imagine living life in a tree like a bird or a squirrel, you wouldn't have a phobia of heights.  If you were a bird and did have a phobia of heights, what would life be like for you.  Would you be gripping the branches with your little feathered wings.  My imagination just went wild with that, I can see disney or pixar doing a movie about it and discovering the power the little bird has to overcome his fears.

We don't get very much sunshine in the winter so I wanted to capture one of the sunny days.  Recovering from back surgery doesn't get me out where I can take a lot of pictures so I have to take them close to home for now.  this was so beautiful to see I can't wait for summer and all the things I want to do.  I am especially looking forward to kayaking as often as possible and since this winter has been so cold I am hoping that summer will be very hot so I can spend the majority of my time in the water.  Sunny days are beautiful summer, fall, winter or spring it doesn't matter.  Michigan is the best examples of the seasons.

January 2, 2014

A stop sign always just looked at as a stop sign.  People make jokes about when they don't stop at them here in Michigan it is the classic Michigan Stop, each state has one.  We actually take these for granted, most people don't like them because they have to stop but can you imagine a world without stop signs.  Who would stop how many accidents would occur.  Who invented the stop sign? William Phelps Eno invented the stop sign, which was first installed in Detroit, Michigan in the year 1915.  In spite of never driving a car he still became the "Father of Traffic Safety."  The first stop sign was white with black lettering though, not the traditional red with white lettering that everyone sees today. Being a Michigander this was a pretty interesting fact that it was invented and installed in Michigan.  William Phelps Eno was a Yale graduate and he wrote an article devising a set of traffic rules and his proposal was recognized after the first traffic accident in 1895.  The stop sign was originally devised to reduce horse and buggy accidents.  William Eno founded the Eno Transportation Foundation.  It was nonprofit and promoted transportation safety in the air and water and on land.  William Phelps Eno developed several other traffic related items.  He even helped during world war 1 and 2 he was asked to prepare military traffic codes.  I did not know what taking a picture of a stop sign would help me learn another interesting fact about the state I love.

January 1, 2014

This is the start of my 365 day album.  A great evening picture of my Grand furbaby laying in the snow.  One of the last days she will be with us.  My kids have all moved out and when they get settled they are going to take the furbabies with them.  I will only have Willow my sugar glider left.  I want to get a dog that is mine and not the kids so that I have someone to keep me company when my husband is working. I also want a dog for protection.  But most of all I would just enjoy having a pet to snuggle with. Taschea misses having her daddy at our house though and even though I would love to keep her, she would not enjoy being without her daddy.  On the upside I get to learn how to live with just my husband again.  I guess it is a good thing I still like him, he is a great man and I enjoy his company and we get to see what life is like without the responsibility of taking care of our kids not saying I don't enjoy my kids, because I do.
